Chief Engineer – Job Description
Responsible for the safe, efficient, and economical operation of all machinery and engineering systems onboard. Oversees engine room operations, planned maintenance, repairs, dry-docking, spare parts and inventory control, fuel and lubricating oil management, and compliance with international regulations (SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM Code). Leads and supervises the engine department, ensures safe working practices, manages troubleshooting and emergency repairs, coordinates with the Master and shore management, and maintains all required technical records and documentation to ensure vessel reliability and operational readiness.
