The Egyptian port of Alexandria has set a historical record for cargo turnover

The largest Egyptian seaport of Alexandria handled about 64.5 million tons of cargo in 2021. This is stated in the report published on Thursday on the official website of the General Administration of the Port.
This indicator is a historical record for Alexandria. According to the report, despite the negative consequences of the coronavirus pandemic for international transportation, the port of Alexandria received 64.5 million tons of cargo during 2021.

Container transportation showed the highest growth, the share of which increased by 17.3% compared to 2020. The share of bulk cargo (petroleum products and other strategically important goods) increased by 16.7% compared to the same year.

The chairman of the port administration, Tarek Shahin, said that "the total number of ships in 2021 increased by 3.7% and amounted to more than 3.5 thousand." He noted that "such results were achieved thanks to the continuous work of employees of Egyptian ports and the introduction of the latest technologies in the management and operation processes."

In addition, Shahin pointed out the importance of increasing the capacity of Egypt's ports in the future through various investment projects.
