China's first ship to transport LNG containers

The Chinese shipyard Nantong Xiangyu Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering has completed the construction of the first vessel for transporting LNG containers. The customer of the vessel is the Chinese logistics company Zhejiang Rui Neng Ocean Shipping.

LNG Prime reports with reference to Nantong Xiangyu that the new vessel, dubbed Rui Neng 8, was created in partnership with the classification society RINA by re-equipping a conventional 640 TEU container ship.

Rui Neng 8 will be able to carry 180 40-foot ISO LNG containers or 300 standard containers. According to the shipyard, this is the first such vessel in China. Its length is 133.6 m and a width of 22.6 m.

The ship's customer, Zhejiang Rui Neng Ocean Shipping, specializes in the transportation of LNG in tanks in the Chinese market, and is also developing these services in partnership with local and international energy companies. It is assumed that Rui Neng 8 will mainly be involved in the East China Sea.
