A fishing vessel sank in a Latvian port

A fishing vessel has sunk in the port of Roi (western Latvia), work is underway to prevent oil products from entering the Baltic Sea from the vessel. This was reported by the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) of Latvia.

The vessel sank right at the berth in the morning, at about 5 a.m. local time (06:00 Moscow time), an oil slick appeared on the surface of the water at the place of flooding. Currently, additional barrier and absorption booms are being installed in the port to localize the spill of petroleum products.

The State Environmental Service has been informed about the incident. Firefighters in cooperation with the port administration continue to work at the scene. The owner of the sunken ship of the Latvian company LLC Zemnieku saimnieciba Irbe declined to comment on the situation.
