Canada united with Australia in promising to bring home Overdue Seafarers

Transport Canada has rolled a notification that it aims to finally impose the Maritime Labour Convention provisions on duration of agreement and Disembark. This means that if a seafarer has accomplished period of 11 months sailing on vessel , he or she can legitimately
sign off and be disembarked at the owner’s cost.

“welfare, fatigue and mental health issues of seafarers may have worsened to a point that they may risk health and safety,” Transport Canada noticed in a publication.
Foreign vessels in Canadian waters running without a authorized seafarer employment contract for all Seafarers will be matter to execution action such as imprisonment and/or a fine.
The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) has broadcasted same parameters that take effect from February 28.
