Description
Sea-Watch e.V. is a non-profit initiative dedicated to the civil sea rescue of refugees. In view of the humanitarian disaster in the central Mediterranean Sea-Watch provides emergency aid, demands and at the same time forces the rescue by the responsible European institutions and publicly stands up for legal escape routes. We are politically and religiously independent and are financed exclusively by donations.

Your Profile:
- Recent experience with large engines
- Good knowledge and experience of standard safety equipment for ships
- Good English language skills
- Willingness to do general maintenance work all over the ship (in support of the bosun)
- Ability to work and live in a diverse team of 22 volunteers some of whom have limited nautical experience
- Physical fitness and mental resilience
- Commitment to challenging racism, sexism and the EU border policy
Desired Certificates:
- Certificate of competency as Second Engineer Officer (STCW III/3) OR as Chief Engineer Officer (STCW III/2)
- Certificate of Proficiency in Safety Familiarization and Basic Safety Training (STCW VI/1)
- Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats (STCW VI/2-1)
- Certificate of Proficiency in Advanced Fire Fighting (STCW VI/3)
- Certificate of Proficiency in Security Duties (STCW VI/6) (can be obtained on short term)
- Medical fitness certificate for seafarers
Desired Skills
- Experience on ocean going ships
- Experience with Caterpillar engines or similar engines
- Experience in maintaining/repairing hydraulic systems
- Experience with electric arc welding (manual and MAG)
- Experience with mooring ships and line handling
