Chief cook must have extensive training in all aspects of food preparation, including cooking techniques, kitchen management, and food safety and sanitation. Many aspiring chief cooks start as a line or apprentice chefs and work their way up the kitchen hierarchy.
Most chief cooks have several years of experience working in a professional kitchen. They must have experience working in different kitchen positions and have a proven track record of success as a chef.
