Job Description

Atlas NextWave is recruiting three Deckhands to join a Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger (TSHD) operating at London Gateway, UK.

The successful candidates will assist with daily deck operations, maintenance, mooring, and dredging-related activities while maintaining high standards of safety and equipment care.

The initial contract is six weeks, with the opportunity to return after leave and join a permanent crew rotation schedule.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out routine deck maintenance, cleaning, painting, and preservation.
• Assist with mooring, anchoring, and other deck operations.
• Support dredging-related activities under the supervision of deck officers.
• Inspect and maintain deck tools, equipment, and safety gear.
• Assist with loading, handling, and securing equipment as assigned.
• Maintain clean and safe working areas.
• Participate in onboard safety drills and follow instructions from senior crew.
• Report equipment defects and unsafe working conditions.

Requirements

• Relevant experience as a Deckhand or in a similar maritime position.
• STCW II/5 certificate, as specified in the vacancy.
• Previous dredger, cargo vessel, or similar vessel experience preferred.
• Valid Seaman’s Book and medical fitness certificate, where applicable.
• Valid STCW certificates and relevant maritime documents.
• Good understanding of deck maintenance and onboard safety procedures.
• Reliable, motivated, and able to work effectively within a team.
• Availability to join on 23 December 2026.
