Job Description:
Curtin Maritime is seeking experienced Crane Operators (Level I, II, III) to join its Marine Transportation Department and support large-scale marine construction and transportation projects across the United States.
The successful candidates will operate various types of floating cranes, pedestal-mounted crane barges, and mechanical dredges, ensuring safe and efficient lifting, handling, and movement of materials and equipment.
The role requires strong knowledge of crane operations, lifting procedures, rigging practices, and marine safety standards. Positions may involve travel to different project locations, extended stays away from home port, long working hours, and rotational schedules depending on project requirements.
Available Positions:
Crane Operator I
Entry-level qualified crane operator responsible for safe crane operations and lifting activities.
Crane Operator II
Experienced crane operator responsible for advanced crane operations, mentoring Level I operators, and troubleshooting crane systems.
Crane Operator III
Senior crane operator responsible for supervising lifting operations, training junior operators, preparing critical lift plans, and leading deck operations.
Key Responsibilities:
As per company policy, the main duties may include but are not limited to:
Operate floating cranes, crawler cranes, crane barges, and mechanical dredging equipment safely and efficiently.
Perform daily crane inspections, maintenance checks, and report equipment issues.
Execute lifting operations according to approved lift plans, load charts, and safety procedures.
Communicate effectively with deck crews, signalers, and supervisors using radios and hand signals.
Maintain compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and marine safety standards.
Support crane maintenance, repairs, and preventative maintenance activities.
Train and guide junior crane operators (Level II and III positions).
Requirements:
General Requirements (All Levels):
Ability to work safely in a marine construction environment.
Strong understanding of lifting operations and safe crane practices.
Ability to read load charts and lifting plans.
Good communication skills and ability to work within a chain of command.
Ability to work in all weather conditions and physically demanding environments.
Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs without restriction.
Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and operate heavy machinery.
Must have adequate hearing and vision ability.
Must be able to swim.
Crane Operator I Requirements:
NCCCO License with LBC endorsements
TWIC Card
Application submitted for MMC (Ordinary Seaman)
Pass US Coast Guard physical examination and drug test
Qualified Rigger certification
Preferred Qualifications:
TLL endorsement
Valid Passport
Excavator operating experience
Experience operating crawler cranes, pedestal-mounted crane barges, or mechanical dredges
Previous rigging experience and knowledge of lifting equipment
Crane Operator II Requirements:
All Crane Operator I requirements plus:
Valid MMC (Ordinary Seaman)
US Coast Guard Medical Certificate
Additional Experience:
Proven experience as Crane Operator I
Experience operating cranes on barges or marine construction vessels
Strong working knowledge of crane systems
Ability to train and mentor junior crane operators
Ability to identify and resolve minor crane equipment issues
Crane Operator III Requirements:
All Crane Operator I and II requirements plus:
Extensive experience operating marine cranes
Advanced knowledge of clamshell and offshore crane operations
Experience with hydraulic and mechanical friction cranes
Additional Skills:
Ability to develop and implement Critical Lift Plans
Strong leadership skills and ability to direct deck operations
Experience coordinating complex lifting operations onboard barges
Ability to complete vessel logs and crane inspection reports using Vessel Management Systems
Knowledge of crane preventative maintenance procedures
