Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Chief Mechanic to ensure the smooth operation, reliability, and optimal performance of mechanical equipment on a drilling rig.
The Chief Mechanic is responsible for directing mechanical maintenance activities, troubleshooting complex mechanical issues, implementing preventive maintenance programs, and maximizing equipment uptime while maintaining high safety standards.
The position involves direct involvement in mechanical equipment maintenance and repair, spare parts ordering, inventory management, technical documentation, and administration of the Preventive Maintenance System (PMS). The successful candidate will also lead and develop the mechanical maintenance team.
Key Responsibilities:
As per company policy and operational requirements, the main duties may include but are not limited to:
- Directing and supervising mechanical maintenance and repair activities on drilling rig equipment.
- Diagnosing and resolving complex mechanical problems to maximize equipment reliability and uptime.
- Developing, implementing, and monitoring preventive maintenance programs through the PMS.
- Managing mechanical spare parts, inventory, equipment requirements, and related financial considerations.
- Maintaining accurate maintenance records, technical documentation, and operational reports.
- Ensuring compliance with oil and gas industry safety, quality, and environmental requirements.
- Leading, supervising, and motivating the mechanical maintenance team.
- Coordinating maintenance activities and communicating equipment status and requirements to relevant management.
- Supporting safe and efficient drilling operations through proactive mechanical maintenance.
Requirements:
- Minimum 10 years of experience in onshore and offshore drilling operations.
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a Chief Mechanic.
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
- Previous experience and direct exposure to rig drilling equipment.
- Extensive experience diagnosing and repairing complex mechanical problems on drilling rigs.
- Proven experience leading and motivating a mechanical maintenance team.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement preventive maintenance programs.
- Strong understanding of oil and gas industry safety regulations and procedures.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with maintenance management systems/PMS is an advantage.
- Ability to work safely and efficiently in an offshore drilling environment.
