Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Chief Electrician to join a drilling rig operation. The Chief Electrician is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all electrical systems and equipment onboard the rig.
The role covers electrical maintenance, repair, installation, troubleshooting, commissioning, and preventive maintenance. The Chief Electrician will also be responsible for ordering electrical spare parts, administering the Preventive Maintenance System (PMS), maintaining technical records, and supervising electrical personnel.
The successful candidate must have extensive experience in drilling operations and a strong technical understanding of electrical systems used in hazardous environments and modern drilling equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
As per company policy and operational requirements, the main duties may include but are not limited to:
- Managing and maintaining all rig electrical systems and equipment.
- Performing electrical installation, troubleshooting, repair, commissioning, and preventive maintenance.
- Ensuring compliance with electrical codes, safety regulations, company procedures, and applicable standards.
- Planning and coordinating electrical maintenance activities through the PMS and ensuring equipment is serviced according to schedule.
- Leading, supervising, and motivating electrical technicians and ensuring safe and efficient execution of electrical work.
- Responding to electrical emergencies and supporting safe recovery of critical rig systems.
- Managing spare parts, technical documentation, maintenance records, and electrical equipment inventories.
- Supporting electrical projects and equipment installations from planning through commissioning.
- Working with PLCs, field devices, network communications, drilling electrical equipment, and associated control systems.
- Carrying out additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Rig Superintendent.
Requirements:
- Minimum 10 years of experience in onshore or offshore drilling operations.
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a Chief Electrician.
- Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
- Strong understanding of electrical principles, applications, and safety protocols in hazardous environments.
- Proven experience leading and motivating electrical technicians.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and execute electrical projects efficiently.
- Experience with computerized maintenance management systems, preferably SAP.
- Good knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Field Devices (FD).
- Knowledge of network communication types and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in computer software and hardware.
- Strong knowledge of drilling electrical equipment and rig operations.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Familiarity with international cable sizing standards and ability to perform basic power calculations.
- Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work safely and effectively in a drilling rig environment.
