Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Assistant / Commis Baker to support the Baker and Head Baker in the production of high-quality bakery products onboard a premium cruise vessel.

The successful candidate will assist with the preparation of breads, pastries and other baked goods for guests and crew while maintaining strict standards of food quality, hygiene, sanitation and safety.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the Baker and Head Baker with daily bakery production.
• Prepare a variety of breads, pastries and baked products according to approved recipes.
• Operate bakery equipment safely and correctly.
• Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of the bakery and work areas.
• Follow all Public Health, Food Safety and Sanitation procedures.
• Minimize food waste and use provisions efficiently.
• Maintain proper storage and handling of ingredients.
• Complete required records and follow production procedures.
• Participate in daily briefings, training and emergency drills.
• Cooperate with the provisions team and other galley departments.
• Maintain a professional, guest-focused and flexible approach onboard.

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of experience as an Assistant Baker or in a similar role within a premium hospitality environment; alternatively, professional culinary education with at least 6 months of relevant experience.
• Basic professional baking skills.
• Ability to safely operate commercial bakery equipment.
• Fluent English and strong communication skills sufficient to understand menus, recipes and instructions.
• Flexible, resilient, reliable and team-oriented attitude.
• Strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
• Guest-focused approach and positive attitude.
• Professional appearance and consistently high hygiene standards.
• Willingness to comply with all Public Health and Sanitation Policies.
• Minimum age: 21 years.
• Ability to lift 50+ lbs / approximately 23 kg and work approximately 11 hours per day, 7 days per week.
• Previous cruise ship experience is an advantage.
