Jan 3 (Reuters) – Venezuela's oil exports, which had already dropped significantly due to the U.S. blockade on sanctioned tankers, are now completely stalled. Port captains have not received any requests to allow loaded ships to depart, according to four sources familiar with the situation.
This stoppage follows the U.S. extraction of President Nicolas Maduro and his wife from Caracas, along with the announcement of a political transition plan for the country.
President Trump stated on Saturday that an "oil embargo" on Venezuela is fully in place.
If the suspension of oil exports continues, including those for tankers chartered by PDVSA's main partner Chevron, it could lead to a faster reduction in oil production. Sources and PDVSA documents indicate that storage tanks and floating storage ships are filling up quickly.
Neither PDVSA nor Chevron responded immediately to requests for comments.
