On April 30, 2026, the United States is pursuing the forfeiture of two oil tankers linked to Iran. This action is part of a naval blockade aimed at the Islamic Republic, according to a senior official in the administration.

The US Department of Justice has started the forfeiture process, but details about what this means or if it involves seizing the oil onboard have not been disclosed. The official, who wished to remain anonymous due to the sensitive nature of the operations, did not provide information on the future of the tankers or their current paths, referencing operational security concerns.

According to the Pentagon, US forces boarded the tankers Tifani and Phonix—also known as Majestic X—last week near Sri Lanka. In the days that followed, the tankers sailed across the Indian Ocean and appeared to change their routes multiple times.
