WASHINGTON, June 20 - On Saturday, the U.S. military rejected Iran's claims that it had closed the Strait of Hormuz. They confirmed that this vital waterway is still open and that U.S. forces are closely monitoring the situation to ensure it stays that way.

According to Navy Captain Tim Hawkins, a spokesperson for U.S. Central Command, "Iran does not control the Strait of Hormuz. Traffic continues to flow, and U.S. forces are monitoring the situation to ensure this remains the case."

Earlier on Saturday, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced that the Strait of Hormuz was closed and warned ships to avoid the area. This raised concerns about the future of a ceasefire agreement between the U.S. and Iran, which was aimed at facilitating peace talks.
