U.S. Becomes First Country to Export 10 Million Tonnes of LNG in Single Month photo

HOUSTON, Nov 3 - The United States has made history by becoming the first nation to export 10 million metric tonnes (mmt) of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in one month, according to preliminary data from LSEG, a financial firm.

In October, the U.S. exported a record amount of 10.1 mmt of LNG, increasing from a revised 9.1 mmt in September, as per LSEG's data.

The U.S. is already the world's largest LNG exporter and has seen a boost in sales, including four record-breaking months in 2025. This increase is driven by the launch of Venture Global’s Plaquemines export plant and the expansion of Cheniere’s Corpus Christi Stage 3 project.

The Plaquemines facility in Louisiana exported 2.2 mmt last month, exceeding its previous record of 1.6 mmt set in September.

Cheniere’s Corpus Christi facility also set a record, exporting 1.6 mmt. Combined with Sabine Pass, which exported 2.6 mmt in October, Cheniere accounted for a total of 4.2 mmt, making up 42% of all U.S. LNG exports.

Once the Corpus Christi Stage 3 project is finished, it will enable Cheniere to export over 50 million metric tonnes per year starting in 2026, according to CEO Jack Fusco.

LSEG data indicates that Venture Global and Cheniere were responsible for 72% of the U.S. total LNG exports in October.

EUROPE IS THE BIGGEST CUSTOMER

Europe was the main destination for U.S. LNG in October, receiving 6.9 mmt, or almost 69% of total exports. This is an increase from 6.22 mmt in September, as Europe continued to fill its storage ahead of winter, based on LSEG ship tracking data.

Exports to Asia reached 1.96 mmt last month, up from 1.63 mmt in September.

In Latin America, U.S. LNG exports dropped to 0.57 mmt in October from 0.63 mmt in September as the region gets ready for the warmer summer months.

Egypt imported five cargoes totaling 0.43 mmt, slightly less than the 0.5 mmt it bought in September.

Additionally, two cargoes went to Senegal, totaling 0.1 mmt, and there were two more seeking orders for another 0.1 mmt, according to LSEG data.

In October, gas prices were $10.88 per million British thermal units at the Dutch Title Transfer Facility in Europe, down from $11.13 in September. The average price at the Japan Korea Marker in Asia was $11.11 in October, compared to $11.32 in September.

The prices at TTF and JKM were so similar that they offered little motivation for U.S. LNG exporters to switch from selling to Europe to the more distant Asian market.
