On August 11, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations reported an incident involving a container ship and military forces in the Gulf of Oman, which was initially identified as a tanker.

Maritime security sources indicated that the container ship was likely struck by a missile off the coast of Pakistan.

Initial reports suggest that the Panama-flagged container ship Vela Nova was hit by a missile while navigating through the Gulf of Oman on Tuesday, approximately 71 nautical miles from the coast of Pakistan, according to the British maritime risk management group Vanguard and another maritime security source.
