ISTANBUL, Sept 3 (Reuters) – Turkish officials are still searching for 10 missing crew members after a cargo ship sank near Istanbul due to a collision with another vessel, according to state-run Anadolu Agency.
The incident occurred on Wednesday when two Turkish-flagged commercial ships collided in the Sea of Marmara. One of the ships, which had 10 crew members onboard, reportedly sank in about 11 minutes following the accident.
On Thursday, search efforts continued and involved the coast guard, navy, disaster management agency, and other emergency services. Anadolu reported that 18 vessels, five helicopters, two drones, an aircraft, and a naval ship designed for underwater searches have been deployed in these operations.
The second ship, which was not damaged, is currently anchored near Silivri. An investigation into what caused the collision is underway, as stated by Anadolu.
