Thordon Bearings has opened a new manufacturing facility to keep up with strong growth in all its business areas and the increased demand for its eco-friendly bearings and seals.
This new plant, the third one, will give Thordon more space to produce additional non-bearing equipment, increase production, shorten lead times, and develop new products.
The facility is located at 3180 Mainway in Burlington, just a short distance from Thordon's main office at 3225 Mainway. It will mainly focus on making high-performance TG100 water-lubricated mechanical seals and water quality packages for the marine and hydropower sectors. Additionally, the new plant will house Thordon’s New Product Development team and operations for its affiliate, Marsh Brothers Aviation.
Anna Galoni, Chair and CEO of Thordon Bearings, stated: “In line with our commitment to innovation and quality, we are investing in growth. The new production space has allowed Thordon and MBA to improve layouts for assembly, machining, and office areas, enhancing throughput, productivity, and efficiency. This expanded facility bolsters our capacity to meet the lead times that our distributors and customers expect as we respond to increasing demand.”
The new facility mainly provides extra space for operations, which will free up capacity at the existing main office for more manufacturing and staffing growth. This added capacity will meet business needs and support significant job growth at Thordon. Since the end of 2023, the company’s workforce has increased by 32%, adding new roles in management, sales, and production at both the head office and the new plant. Thordon believes its workforce will keep growing as it hires new talent.
The opening of Plant 3 was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Karina Gould, MP for the Government of Canada, Natalie Pierre, MPP for the Government of Ontario, and Terry Caddo, President and CEO of the Burlington Chamber of Commerce.
“Burlington provides us with a skilled workforce, strong government support, and an excellent quality of life, making it a key hub for our global customers,” Anna Galoni added. “Being close to our main facility also enhances collaboration between teams and helps maintain the close-knit family atmosphere that our employees appreciate.”
