May 4, 2026 - QatarEnergy has extended its force majeure on liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies until mid-June. This decision comes as the Strait of Hormuz remains largely closed to tanker traffic, according to sources familiar with the situation.
Customers of QatarEnergy have been informed of this extension, but the company has not publicly commented on the matter.
Force majeure is a legal term used when unexpected events prevent a company from fulfilling its contractual obligations. QatarEnergy has issued several notices of force majeure since the Iran conflict began in late February.
Since the start of the war, global gas prices in Europe and Asia have risen sharply, with nearly 20% of LNG supplies affected, including shipments from Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. Additionally, Qatar's Ras Laffan facility sustained damage from Iranian missile strikes in March.
