NAVTOR is supporting Redningsselskapet, the Norwegian Society for Sea Rescue, by providing its advanced fleet management solution, NavFleet, for free. This partnership aims to enhance efficiency and lower costs while ensuring ongoing system support. It will enable the society to operate its fleet of 59 vessels more effectively, improving planning, monitoring, vessel utilization, predictability, and ultimately leading to significant cost savings through smarter decision-making.
Great Collaboration
Redningsselskapet has been dedicated to protecting lives and property in Norwegian waters since 1891. This charity relies entirely on the efforts of its team, volunteers, members, and donors. It has become a well-known institution in Norway, with its recognizable red and white vessels completing nearly 10,000 missions annually (9,674 projected for 2024).
At the heart of NAVTOR's approach is the goal of enabling safer, smarter shipping operations, making this partnership a fitting choice for the Egersund-based company.
NAVTOR provides a range of services for over 18,000 SOLAS vessels worldwide. NavFleet connects ships and shore facilities, allowing the seamless sharing of information like passage plans, routes, documents, and official ENC charts from the Norwegian Mapping Authority (Kartverket), integrated into NAVTOR's digital system. Many RS vessels are already using NavBox for automated updates, with the full fleet rollout planned for this year to ensure they always have access to the latest official charts.
Better Decision-Making
Gorm Hillgaar, Maritime Director at Redningsselskapet, said: “This is a team effort. Our members, volunteers, and corporate partners are essential to saving lives along the Norwegian coastline, and we are very thankful for the support in this important mission. To make better decisions and be ready when we’re needed 24/7, we must use data from both vessels and shore in the best way possible.
“The official ENCs and the ongoing support from NAVTOR and Kartverket are vital. NavFleet could provide a new level of oversight and context, allowing us to use a complete view to deploy resources quickly and accurately, improving predictability and precision, and giving us a clear timeline for when vessels will be ready again. This comprehensive view enables us to take proactive steps to ensure we are prepared. Preparedness that saves lives. We are thrilled to have NAVTOR as a partner.”
Focus on Safety
NAVTOR is known for promoting safe operations at sea, and its partnership with Redningsselskapet complements its existing support for the US Coast Guard’s AMVER initiative. This partnership led to the integration of AMVER warnings into NAVTOR’s NavStation route planning tool in 2022, streamlining tasks and aiding vessels at sea in responding to emergencies and saving lives.
“We are deeply committed to safety at sea,” said Tor Svanes, NAVTOR Founder and CEO. “Our digital ecosystem simplifies life for shipping companies globally, helping them meet operational and regulatory goals. We also view it as a powerful resource for making smarter, safer decisions.”
Customer-Centric Approach
Svanes added: “Redningsselskapet is truly the heroes of the sea in Norway, and we are excited to support the team with this enhanced partnership. Since it is a volunteer-based charity, achieving cost savings and efficiency is crucial.”
“As we always prioritize our customers, we look forward to receiving operational feedback from RS, which will help us refine our offerings and create additional value for the team, contributing to safer seas in Norway and beyond.”
