MacGregor has been chosen to provide a wide range of cargo handling solutions for six 1,700 TEU dual-fuel LNG-powered containerships that will be constructed at Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) in India. These vessels are being built for CMA CGM and are set to be delivered between 2029 and 2031. They will enhance India’s role as a key hub for global trade and sustainable shipbuilding.

This order will be included in MacGregor’s Q2 2026 sales records.

The comprehensive supply will include the design and key components, steel structures, and fabrication of hatch covers, along with design and essential components for cell guides, deck stanchions, and fixed container fittings.

This contract is a major step in promoting the development of sustainable shipping infrastructure in the Indian subcontinent. The ships are designed to run on LNG and are prepared for low-carbon fuels, which aligns with CMA CGM’s goal of achieving Net Zero Carbon by 2050. This project is also a significant moment for the Indian maritime sector, as CMA CGM becomes the first major international carrier to order LNG vessels from an Indian shipyard.

Strategic Partnership and Local Expertise

“We are dedicated to delivering high-quality vessels with sustainable solutions that meet future market needs,” said Mr. Vijai Hari P (AGM-Business Development) from Cochin Shipyard. “By partnering with MacGregor for the cargo handling, these vessels will be equipped with top-notch technology. This project showcases our growing capabilities in the global shipbuilding industry and our dedication to the ‘Make in India’ vision.”

The contract was facilitated by VARYA Tech Private Limited, MacGregor's long-term agent in India. Their in-depth understanding of the local market and customers was crucial in coordinating between the shipyard and MacGregor.

“We are proud to have played a role in this important agreement between MacGregor and Cochin Shipyard,” stated Mr. Ajay Jalali, Vice President of Sales at VARYA Tech Private Limited. “Winning an order of this size for CMA CGM’s new fleet requires smooth collaboration and technical skill. We are excited to see these innovative ships come to life and contribute to the modernization of India’s maritime sector.”

“We are honored to be selected by Cochin Shipyard for this groundbreaking project,” said Magnus Sjöberg, Executive Vice President at MacGregor. “Our capability to deliver a complete, integrated cargo handling system guarantees operational efficiency and safety for these advanced vessels. This order further solidifies our position as a preferred partner for complex newbuild projects worldwide, especially as the industry shifts towards more sustainable fuel solutions.”
