Italian Frigate Escorts Merchant Vessel Safely Through Red Sea

On August 1, a merchant ship successfully sailed through the Red Sea with the protection of the Italian frigate Bergamini, according to the European Union naval mission ASPIDES.

ASPIDES, which is the EU's maritime security operation in the Red Sea, did not provide details about the ship, such as its name, flag, ownership, or cargo.

Recently, shipping activities in the Red Sea have been disrupted again due to the Iran-aligned Houthis in Yemen declaring a naval blockade on Saudi Arabia. They have also targeted Saudi vessels, which has increased risks for commercial shipping and contributed to rising oil prices.
