Iraq to Collaborate with Syria on Oil Pipeline Project
Iraq is set to sign a deal with Syria to build pipelines that will connect oil production areas to global export markets through the Mediterranean, according to an official statement.
The Iraqi cabinet has given permission for the director general of Basra Oil Company to sign a memorandum of understanding with the Syrian oil ministry to move forward with this project.
Additionally, the government has instructed the oil minister to enter into discussions with a consortium that includes ConocoPhillips, TI Capital, and Novaterra. They will assess the exploration and development of the Akkas oil field and nearby areas, based on the cabinet's announcement.
The oil ministry plans to announce the bidding process for the Integrated Qayyara Project, aimed at improving Iraq's oil infrastructure and boosting production capacity. The cabinet also approved a tender to drill an exploratory well in the Qara Tappah region.
Furthermore, the cabinet has approved the activation of the Iraq-Turkey framework agreement on water resources, with the financing arrangements for projects under this agreement set to begin on September 1.
