On August 22, India's maritime rescue agency reported that it lost contact with a Panama-flagged cargo ship that sank off the eastern coast of India.

The ship had 24 crew members on board, which included 20 from China, three from Myanmar, and one from Bangladesh, according to Coast Guard spokesperson Commandant Amit Uniyal.

The Coast Guard deployed two vessels for the search and rescue operation from Sri Vijaya Puram, formerly known as Port Blair.

The agency has successfully rescued two individuals using life rafts and continues its search for the remaining crew members.

The vessel, named Ocean Winner, was transporting iron ore to Singapore. It departed from Paradip port in eastern India on Thursday and sank approximately 240 nautical miles away from the port.

The reason for the sinking is still unknown.

Captain Alekha Charan Sahoo, who is the deputy conservator of the Paradip Port Authority, expressed his hopes for the crew's safety and remains optimistic.
