FarSounder is set to celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2026, marking 25 years of progress in marine navigation technology and enhancing safety at sea. Since it was founded, the company has consistently improved its 3D forward-looking sonar technology by gaining insights from real operations and responding to its customers' needs, solidifying its status as a leader in the industry.

With a commitment to safer and more environmentally friendly navigation, FarSounder introduced 3D forward-looking sonar that helps ships identify underwater hazards, preventing groundings, oil spills, and potential collisions with whales. Today, its Argos systems provide real-time awareness of the underwater environment, allowing bridge crews to make better and more confident decisions.

Collaboration and integration have been key to FarSounder’s achievements. By partnering closely with others in the industry, the company ensures its technology works smoothly with bridge systems, helping to create a more interconnected and effective navigation ecosystem.

In addition to safety, FarSounder is actively involved in ocean sustainability. As a partner of Seabed 2030, the company allows vessels to gather and share bathymetric data to aid in global seafloor mapping. Its technology also supports marine conservation by detecting whales in real time and enabling crews to record and share environmental observations.

“As we celebrate 25 years, I’m proud of how far we’ve come. What began as a simple idea to enhance underwater awareness for mariners has evolved into a global solution that improves safety and protects marine life,” said Matthew Zimmerman, Technical Founder and CEO of FarSounder.

Looking to the future, FarSounder is committed to purposeful innovation and is focused on developing smart, integrated solutions that enhance safety, support environmental care, and adapt to the changing needs of the maritime industry.
