Damen Shipyards Group has launched the second of two Commissioning Service Operations Vessels (CSOV) 9020 for Ta San Shang Marine Co., Ltd. (TSSM). This company is a joint venture between Japan's Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. and Taiwan's Ta Tong Marine Co., Ltd. The vessels will be used to assist with construction and maintenance tasks at offshore wind farms in the waters of Taiwan.

The CSOV 9020, named TSS Challenger, is set to be delivered in early 2027 and will join another Damen-built vessel, TSS Cruiser, in TSSM's fleet. Damen is constructing the ship in Ha Long, Vietnam, which has modern facilities meeting the safety and quality standards required by the offshore industry.

Designed for Offshore Needs

The Damen CSOV 9020 is built to meet the strict standards of the offshore energy sector. Its hull design ensures excellent stability and sea-keeping, providing comfort for up to 120 people on board.

Crew members and technicians will stay in hotel-class cabins and can safely board and disembark the vessel using a motion-compensated walkway. The design also includes sufficient storage for equipment and supplies needed for various operations linked to offshore energy structures.

Fuel Efficiency Enhanced

The vessel's optimized hull leads to reduced fuel consumption, and its hybrid diesel-electric propulsion system significantly lowers emissions.

To ensure future relevance, the CSOV 9020 is also prepared for potential operation using (green) methanol.

Market-Focused Design

Thomas Röwekamp, Regional Sales Director for Asia-Pacific at Damen, stated, “We are excited to reach this milestone in building these two vessels for TSSM. The CSOV 9020 incorporates years of experience from the European offshore wind industry. Its features have been customized to support the quick growth of the Asian market, positioning these vessels to help TSSM and its clients develop a sustainable energy sector in the region.”
