Salvatore Molino Named President; Steven Kalil to Become CEO While John B. Caddell II Remains Chairman

Caddell Dry Dock & Repair Co., Inc. has announced a leadership change that will take effect on January 1, 2027. This move signals a new chapter for the well-established ship repair company in New York Harbor, ensuring stability in its ownership and strategic direction.

Salvatore Molino, who is currently the Executive Vice President, will step up as President of Caddell Dry Dock & Repair Co., Inc. He will take over from Steven Kalil, who has served as President for 36 years and will move into the role of Chief Executive Officer. William Chapman will continue as Vice President and General Manager, while Ciro Galeno, Jr. will remain Secretary and Treasurer.

John B. Caddell II will keep his position as Chairman of the Board, leading the privately-owned company and its ongoing investments in employees, facilities, and ship repair capabilities.

“We aim to build a company ready not just for today's tasks but for the future opportunities and challenges,” said John B. Caddell II. “This approach shapes our investments in Caddell, our people, and facilities, and it also drives our succession plan.”

“Steve has spent decades strengthening this company and its position in the maritime sector. Salvatore has shown he has the vision and leadership skills to carry this work on. With Steve becoming CEO and Salvatore stepping in as President, we are establishing a leadership structure that protects Caddell’s legacy while preparing for the future.”

This change in leadership is part of a careful evolution of Caddell’s management, following years of investments and planning aimed at ensuring the company continues to grow while preserving its independence and core principles.

Kalil Moves to CEO After 36 Years as President

“After 36 years as President, I'm most proud not just of what we've built, but of the people who built it,” Kalil stated. “Caddell’s reputation is built by generations of skilled workers who take pride in the vessels we repair.”

“Great succession plans keep that experience while opening the door for a new generation of leadership. John’s ongoing commitment to investing in Caddell gives us that stability. Salvatore knows our operations, our customers, and the direction of our industry. I have full confidence in his leadership as President.”

Molino to Take Over as President

Kalil has led the company through more than 30 years of changes in the commercial maritime and ship repair sectors.

During that time, he has helped Caddell grow in the New York Harbor market and built strong relationships with customers, employees, and industry partners.

As CEO, Kalil will stay actively involved in Caddell’s strategic planning, business growth, key customer relations, and corporate initiatives.

“What I'm most proud of is not just what we've built, but the people behind it,” Kalil noted. “Caddell has a reputation forged by talented workers who take pride in their craft.”

“Successful succession plans maintain that accumulated experience while making room for new leadership. John’s ongoing investment in Caddell ensures our stability. Salvatore is well-acquainted with our operations, customers, and our industry's direction. I trust him to lead Caddell as President.”

Molino to Take Over as President

Molino joined Caddell’s leadership team as Executive Vice President in 2022 and has collaborated closely with Caddell and Kalil on various operational aspects, growth strategies, customer relations, and facility development.

As President, Molino will focus on the daily executive leadership and operations of Caddell while working alongside Kalil and the management team to achieve its long-term goals.

“It is a huge privilege to lead a company so embedded in the maritime community of New York Harbor,” said Molino. “We aim to build on this solid foundation. We will continue investing in our workforce, infrastructure, and capabilities while exploring new ways to serve our customers. We intend to grow while preserving the craftsmanship and accountability that built Caddell's reputation.”

Preparing Caddell for the Future

The leadership transition comes as Caddell assesses investments to expand its repair and dry dock capabilities to better support commercial and government vessels in New York Harbor and beyond.

For Molino, ongoing investment in infrastructure and skilled labor is key to keeping Caddell competitive.

“Ship repair is all about people and infrastructure,” Molino explained. “We need the right equipment and facilities, but in the end, it’s the experienced people who deliver on projects. Our future relies on investment in both.”

“New York Harbor is one of the key maritime gateways in the country, and we see major opportunities for a shipyard that can combine experience with ongoing investment and modernization. Our goal is to ensure Caddell can meet those opportunities for many years ahead.”

Starting January 1, 2027, Caddell’s executive leadership structure will be as follows:

John B. Caddell — Chairman of the Board

Steven Kalil — Chief Executive Officer

Salvatore Molino — President

William Chapman – Vice President & General Manager

Ciro Galeno, Jr. – Secretary & Treasurer
