New Electrical and Safety Systems for Offshore Wind Farms

ABS has granted approval in principle (AIP) to Seatrium for its innovative offshore substation (OSS) design, which includes 500-megawatt OSS modules.

“Offshore substations are essential for transferring power from wind turbines through inter-array cables, converting it to high voltage, and sending it back to land via subsea cables. This AIP is a big step forward in offshore wind energy and shows the industry's dedication to safe, efficient, and sustainable energy solutions,” said Robert Langford, Vice President of Global Renewables at ABS.

“This new design for offshore substations supports large-scale renewable energy production while adhering to strict international safety and performance standards,” added Michael Kei, ABS Vice President of Technology.

“The OSS-500A AIP we received from ABS highlights our technical expertise and commitment to meeting high class standards, ensuring clients can trust the reliability and quality of our green solutions,” said Aziz Merchant, Executive Vice President for Engineering, Technology & New Product Development at Seatrium Ltd.

With over 70 years of experience in offshore capabilities and innovation, ABS offers top-tier offshore services, evaluating new and developing solutions to help manage offshore operations safely.
