Global logistics leader A.P. Moller-Maersk has officially chosen Charlotte, North Carolina as its North American headquarters. This is a key step in the company's regional growth plan.
The Danish shipping and logistics firm plans to add more than 500 jobs in Charlotte over the next few years, increasing its workforce in the city to over 1,300 employees. This decision shows Maersk's commitment to enhancing its presence across North America as it shifts towards becoming a complete logistics partner.
Maersk has had a corporate presence in Charlotte for over 20 years, having bought its South Charlotte facility in 2006. The new headquarters will support essential corporate functions such as finance, human resources, commercial strategy, and technology operations.
Charles van der Steene, President of Maersk’s North America Region, stated that the expansion represents the company’s growth and transformation. “We have significantly expanded and changed our North American business, including our workforce, on our journey to become a full logistics partner for our customers,” said van der Steene. “Looking ahead, we realized that having an official North American headquarters would help us better serve our customers and create a workplace where everyone can succeed.”
Van der Steene also highlighted the company’s long-standing relationship with the Charlotte community, saying, “For over two decades, we have built strong connections and a solid base in Charlotte. We’re excited to further establish our presence in this lively community and the North America region.”
Charlotte was chosen for several strategic reasons, including its affordability, growing talent pool, and high quality of life. These qualities make the city an attractive base for Maersk’s North American operations as the company continues to expand its logistics services in the region.
A.P. Moller-Maersk operates as an integrated logistics firm focused on connecting and simplifying customers’ supply chains around the world. The company has operations in more than 130 countries and employs about 100,000 people globally.
