Inmarsat's managed multi-network connectivity service is helping Greek ship owners and managers transform their fleets digitally.
As the top ship-owning country in the world, Greece plays a crucial role in how quickly maritime digitalization is moving forward. Engaging with tools like predictive analytics, voyage optimization, real-time emissions monitoring, and providing internet access for crew members serves as a benchmark for global shipping.
Although IoT-based decision-making tools can improve operational safety and efficiency and aid in regulatory compliance, they also raise the need for better fleet connectivity.
Inmarsat Maritime, part of Viasat, is aiding the digital transformation of the Greek shipping sector through its fully managed multi-network service called NexusWave. Instead of switching between networks, NexusWave combines them smartly, integrating low Earth orbit capacity with Global Xpress Ka-band, LTE, and reliable L-band into a single, easy-to-use solution from a trusted maritime connectivity provider.
Offering download speeds of up to 340 Mbps and upload speeds reaching 80 Mbps, as confirmed in sea trials, Inmarsat's innovative network-bonding method provides global coverage with availability over 99.9%. This means that regardless of where the vessel is operating—whether in busy shipping lanes or crowded ports—NexusWave ensures a consistent and seamless connection.
As high-speed internet onboard shifts from being a luxury to a basic necessity, this solution allows ship operators to offer their crew unlimited data, enhancing crew welfare and helping retain employees in a competitive market.
This effective combination of features has made NexusWave popular among Greek ship owners and managers, who value reliable results and convenience more than just speed. Inmarsat's long-term partner, Pulsar, plans to implement NexusWave across more than 300 vessels in their customer fleet. Pulsar is already ahead of schedule and brings strong local expertise, acting as a trusted link between Inmarsat’s global capabilities and its established customer relationships. Early adopters of this service include Spring Marine Management, Roswell Tankers Corp., and Newport SA.
