DP World Commits $5 Billion to India’s Maritime Infrastructure photo

DP World has announced a commitment to invest $5 billion in India's infrastructure development during the India Maritime Week 2025. This follows three decades of operations in India, where the company has already invested $3 billion.

The focus of this new investment is to strengthen India's supply chain, improve multimodal connectivity, and boost the country's standing in global trade. The announcement was made in Mumbai on Thursday, with the signing of five Memorandums of Association in the presence of Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, the Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways.

“DP World has been part of India's growth journey for nearly 30 years,” said Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman and CEO of DP World. “This new investment, along with our strategic partnerships, reinforces our commitment to support India's maritime and logistics sectors and strengthen the country’s role in global trade,” he added.

The investments aim to lower logistics costs, support local manufacturing, and improve market access while enhancing India's maritime capabilities. Bin Sulayem pointed out that these initiatives align with India's national priorities, including PM Gati Shakti, Sagarmala, and the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047.

The five agreements signed during India Maritime Week focus on green coastal shipping, shipbuilding, ship repair, skill development, and advanced freight mobility. Key partnerships include a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Unifeeder and Sagarmala Finance Corporation to promote green coastal shipping, and an agreement between Cochin Shipyard Limited and Drydocks World to enhance the International Ship Repair Facility in Kochi.

Furthermore, additional collaborations will aim to improve skill development in shipbuilding and repair, through a tripartite agreement involving Cochin Shipyard Limited, Drydocks World, and the Centre of Excellence in Maritime and Shipbuilding. Cochin Port Authority and DP World will also collaborate to upgrade the handling facilities at DP World’s International Container Transshipment Terminal in Kochi.

A notable technology initiative involves Deendayal Port Authority, DP World, and Nevomo (MagRail) working together to design and set up a 750-meter MagRail Booster pilot track within the port, marking a step towards the future of automated, low-emission port operations in India.

DP World’s network in India covers over 200 locations and provides more than 24,000 direct and indirect jobs. The company mentioned that the new investments and partnerships will help expand its presence while emphasizing the importance of trade in creating jobs, promoting development, and enhancing access to goods.
