Crowley Expands Mooring Operations to Nation’s Busiest Port Complex photo

Crowley, a provider of maritime services, has started mooring operations at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. This move is a key step in expanding its harbor services on the West Coast.

The new service combines Crowley’s existing fleet of ship assist and escort tugs with dedicated mooring operations. Company officials say this integration will create smooth coordination between these two essential port functions. This launch builds on Crowley’s established operations in the Pacific Northwest and is the first time the company offers mooring services in Southern California.

“By expanding our mooring services into Los Angeles and Long Beach, we enhance our ability to coordinate the important services of mooring and ship assistance, ensuring that vessels arrive, dock, and leave ports safely and efficiently,” said Bannon Crowley, the general manager of Crowley’s ship assist and escort services.

The company highlighted that this expansion meets the changing needs of customers in the busiest port complex in the country, where quick vessel turnaround times are essential for maintaining cargo flow. Crowley collaborated closely with port authorities and the International Longshore and Warehouse Union Local 13 to develop this service.

Crowley boasts a high-performing fleet of U.S. tugboats designed specifically for assist and escort services at the Los Angeles and Long Beach ports. With over 130 years of maritime experience, the company has been providing ocean and land transportation services to both commercial and government sectors.

The integrated approach aims to simplify vessel movements by allowing one provider to manage both the mooring lines that secure ships to berths and the tugboat operations that guide vessels through the harbor. This coordination could make it easier to manage port calls compared to dealing with multiple service providers.

As a privately owned, U.S.-based company, Crowley operates in 36 countries and island territories and is one of the top employers of American mariners. Their offerings include maritime, energy, and logistics solutions across global markets.
