BOEM Announces Second Gulf Lease Sale Under Energy Expansion Program photo

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management has revealed plans for its second offshore oil and gas lease sale, part of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. This sale is set for March 11, 2026.

This upcoming sale, called Big Beautiful Gulf 2 (BBG2), will include around 15,000 unleased blocks that cover about 80 million acres in the Gulf of America, specifically on the U.S. Outer Continental Shelf. The blocks are located anywhere from 3 to 231 miles off the coast, with water depths ranging from 9 feet to over 11,100 feet.

BBG2 is the second of thirty oil and gas lease sales in the Gulf of America mandated by the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. This law aims to create a clear schedule for lease sales to boost American energy production and enhance the country’s energy independence.

The first sale in this series, Big Beautiful Gulf 1, is set for a public bid reading on December 10, 2025. It will also offer around 80 million acres for leasing and includes a 12.5% royalty rate for both shallow and deepwater leases.
